道教 Dàojiào noun Taoism 道教A Chinese philosophy and religion which holds that the ‘Tao’(the ‘Way’) is the origin of all things in the universe. Taoism was founded in the Eastern Han Dynasty by Zhang Daoling (张道陵), whom followers regard as a master. A central figure in Taoism is the philosopher Lao Zi (老子), honoured as Taishang Laojun (太上老君). The main Taoist classic is Lao Zi's Tao Te Ching (《道德经》). |
