儒家 Rújiā noun Confucian school ▸ 儒家思想 Confucianism 儒家A school of thought founded by Confucius (→ 孔子). Confucianism emphasizes character-building and an ethical education, with benevolence (仁) and righteousness (义) as criteria for behaviour. It upholds the relationship between sovereign and subject, father and son, husband and wife, brothers etc. Mencius (孟子) is another important figure in Confucianism, and the names of Confucius and Mencius are often combined as Kong Meng (孔孟). From the Han Dynasty, Confucianism became the dominant ideology in Chinese feudal society. This lasted for over 2,000 years. |
