蒙古包 měnɡɡǔbāo noun (Mongolian) yurt 蒙古包A domed tent (yurt) with a circular frame, and walls made of a lattice of wood, used by Mongolian and other nomadic peoples. The roof and walls are covered with felt made of wool, and fastened down with rope. At the crown of the roof is a round skylight that lets in light and provides ventilation. There are two types of yurt: fixed or mobile. The word menggubao is Manchu in origin. Yurts are known as ger (格儿) in Mongolian, and in ancient times were called qionglu (穹庐). |
