秦腔 qínqiānɡ noun Shaanxi opera 秦腔Qinqiang, a traditional opera, popular in Shaanxi and Gansu as well as parts of neighbouring provinces. The opera features clappers called bangzi (梆子), which are used to beat time. The pitch of singing is high and intense, with a distinctive rhythm, and it displays a great range of emotions. The libretto consists of seven words to a line. Well-known traditional theatrical pieces include Three Drops of Blood (《三滴血》) and The Orphan of Zhao Family (《赵氏孤儿》), amongst others. |
